A National Transport Safety Board (NTSB) is a U.S. government independent organization responsible for investigation of accidents involving aviation, highway, marine, pipelines and railroads in the United States. These are charged by the U.S. Congress to investigate every civil aviation accident in the United States, as well as significant accidents in other modes of transportation (Such as the Big Bayou Conot train disaster) The organization is also in charge of investigating cases of hazardous waste releases that occur from modes of transportation. Mark Rosenker has been a Vice Chairman since 2003, and Acting Chair since March 2005. Ellen Engleman Conners served when NTSB Chair from either March 2003 to March 2005, & hwhen been nominated per President for some other both season term as Chair. Mr. Rosenker is serving when Acting Chair until such period when Ms. Engleman Conners is once more confirmed per U.s. senate. A board is depending within Washington, D.C.
History
It was established as an independent organization around 1967, though with heavy ties to the US Department of Transportation.
